When I talked about the reliability of user data in the web 2.0 style websites, I asked you to just imagine what might happen if you loose all you email from Gmail. But indeed it has happened to few people. Here are few links from reliable sources

Oh my god! I just cannot imagine this happening to me. More over it seems that Google doesn’t retain a copy of your email once you delete it due to privacy issues. This means that there is very little chance that your email can be restored. All say that the solution is to back up you email. But how to back up my 1.5 GB of email? 🙁
You lost your emails?
No Aswin, I didn’t loose any emails.
But I am not sure whether I lost any emails when I was not checking them during my surgery.
That’s the thing about it: You have no idea wether you’ve lost emails that you haven’t read!
Well I am going to be optimistic 😉
Lol… Same here 🙂
GMail is getting superior each day. There is a YouTube of GMail engineers and today GMail seems to be open for web signups too.

This is weird. I am pretty sure I had received an email with a jpg attachment about last week.
I spent 1/2 hour looking for it today, it just to seems to have vanished from existence. I tried many search combination I could think about, and also clicking through the threads one by one… no luck.
The threaded inbox doesn’t make things easier… this is one of the times where I wish to have a normal, non-threaded mail display.
Anyway I seem to have come to the conclusion, pending further development, that google merrily swallowed my email. Bon appetit. Luckily, I found a copy of that file buried in my downloads folder.
