Like all geeks I have photography as my hobby.

Loosing weight without any exercise or diet

Just now I realised that this is my first post in 2009. So Happy New Year guys (for both English and Tamil new year)

It’s hardly a month since New Year eve and I have already faced both sides of life πŸ™‚ . 2009 started with a very high note for me and I was entirely occupied for the first three weeks, both due to work as well as due to hobby. (In fact I even planned to write a post titled Jam-paced Jan πŸ™‚ )

Things started off well with Chennai Tweetup at Broken Bridge (Pictures) , FoodWalk at Mint Street (Yet to upload pictures) and then Chennai Sangamam (pictures)

On 16th Jan, I went to the grand finale of Chennai Sangamam at Besant Nagar with Aswin and Yuvi. It was damn good and as usual I started taking photos. It was too crowded and we were not able to get near to the stage. I started using Aswin’s head as a tripod. Seeing this, a shop keeper gave me a chair and I continued to take photos by standing on this chair. When Drums Mani was performing, people standing in the back started to push and someone knocked the chair in which I was standing. After a few second this is how the chair looked like πŸ™‚

Chair on which I was standing

I got up and after laughing at myself, checked my cam and myself. There were only some minor Scratches and I started to enjoy the event and then the fireworks.

It was only after a couple of days later, I came to know that my heroics efforts have caused some internal injury and have ruptured my appendix. I had severe pain in my abdomen and got admitted to the hospital on 21st Jan. After two hours of surgery doctors removed my appendix and now I am back at home after losing 30 grams of weight. πŸ™‚

I went to hospital again today to get my stitches removed. It seems that the Wounds have healed and I should get back to normal life style in a week or two.

At last I succeeded in reducing my weight without any diet or exercise πŸ˜‰

Bought a new Canon PowerShot S5 IS

Today, I gave in to my temptation and bought a new Canon PowerShot S5 IS, which is making Yuvi envy. πŸ˜‰ I have already started taking some snaps and it looks really awesome.

It is less than two years back that I bought a new Olympus cam. But during my last Photowalk, I realized that I have hit the limitations of the cam. Since then I was looking to buy a new cam. Initially I was looking to buy a DSLR but the price factor kept it away from my reach. I was looking for other options and Yuvi suggested S5. I read some reviews and then immediately I made up my mind.

The following are the specifications

  • 8.0 MegaPixels
  • 12X Optical Zoom
  • 2.5 Inch LCD
  • 6.0-72.0 mm focal length
  • f/2.7-3.5 Aperture
  • Variable Aperture and Shutter speed.

You can read the full specification in the official page.

In addition to the Cam, I also bought two 2 GB cards and two sets of rechargeable batteries (again Yuvi’s recommendation)

PS: Leaving to Ooty for a small vacation over the weekend and hoping to be back with some real good photos.

The Chennai Photowalk

It’s time to clean my camera, which has been idle for quite some time now. I am going to take part in the Chennai Photowalk on June 15th.

This is the eighth edition of the Chennai Photowalk which is going to be on both June 15th and 22nd. We will start at Panagal Park in T.Nagar and proceed in an easterly direction down Thyagaraya road, and end the walk at Residency towers. The initiative is by Chandrachoodan Gopalakrishnan and you can get more information from his blog. You can also browse photos of the previous photowalks in Flickr.

For me, this is the first time to be part of a photowalk and so I am really excited. If you are in Chennai and ready to sacrifice a Sunday evening, then please do come. You don’t need to have an expensive camera; there are people who are going to shoot using their mobile cameras itself. πŸ˜‰

Update: You can find the photos which I took during the PhotoWalk in Flickr. There are lot of teddies out there πŸ˜‰

Photos from pipesCamp

As promised here are some of the photos taken during the pipesCamp event which I attended two weeks back. After failing to find a way to directly embed photos from Flickr, I am now hotlinking them.

3:11 – My Photo

As promised, here is the photo which I took as part of the 3:11 PM event.

Sudar's 3:11 PM Photo

You can also view the file at smugmug

Description of the Photo

I took this photo from the terrace of my home in Old Washermen Pet (Chennai – 21). I have been watching these brothers for some time. The younger brother was trying to fly a kite, while the older one was teasing and discouraging him. The younger one was trying for more than an hour in the torching sun and finally succeeded. Next time I needed that extra push, I am sure to view this photo. πŸ˜‰

I wished I could record the whole incident as a video.

3:11 PM – Defining a moment in Chennai

Note: If you are from Chennai and interested in photography please proceed. Others might not be interested in this post.

A unique photography event is talking place in Chennai to capture one instant of this metropolitan forever. It is called 3:11 PM and this is what you have to do. When the clock strikes 3:11 PM today (Nov – 3rd – 2007), stop whatever you are doing, and click, shoot, snap, capture or photograph that moment, just hold that one instant frozen in a picture and send it to the 3:11PM team. There are no requisites to do this, other than that you be in Chennai, whether it be a fancy SLR or a VGA mobile camera, get the clearest, cleanest shot you can that will suggest what you were doing or what was going on near you, in our lovely city, at that one instant. This is not a competition and so there is not going to be a winner or a looser. It is an event and all are just participants.

If that suits your passion, go ahead synchronize your watch, and be ready for the moment and snap it. Once you have taken the photo attach a note, in fewer than 50 words, with your name and where you were when you clicked that snap and upload it using this procedure.

I have to go to Santhome today for a small work and I guess I will be in near the Marina Beach at that time. You can see me in action with my camera.

Thanks Aswin for the info

PS: Planning to take Yuvi with me. πŸ™‚

My best shot ever

It took me 8 months to put my camera to good use and you can see the results below.

From Kodai Trip 09…
From Kodai Trip 09…

I consider these my best shots ever (at least in my opinion πŸ˜‰ )

It’s been quite some time since I bought my first digital camera, but it has taken me 8 months to put it into proper use. The credit goes to lazybug πŸ™‚

I have chosen Picasa Web Albums to upload my pictures rather than Flickr because of two reasons. First I love Picasa and it is very easy to upload the album to Picasa Web Albums rather than Flickr and the second reason is that I have more storage space. πŸ™‚ (May be Yuvi can convince me to use Zooomr. πŸ™„ )

By the way these photos were taken when I was on vacation sometime back and the whole album is available in Picasa for your viewing pleasure. πŸ˜†
