Today, I gave in to my temptation and bought a new Canon PowerShot S5 IS, which is making Yuvi envy. 😉 I have already started taking some snaps and it looks really awesome.
It is less than two years back that I bought a new Olympus cam. But during my last Photowalk, I realized that I have hit the limitations of the cam. Since then I was looking to buy a new cam. Initially I was looking to buy a DSLR but the price factor kept it away from my reach. I was looking for other options and Yuvi suggested S5. I read some reviews and then immediately I made up my mind.
The following are the specifications
- 8.0 MegaPixels
- 12X Optical Zoom
- 2.5 Inch LCD
- 6.0-72.0 mm focal length
- f/2.7-3.5 Aperture
- Variable Aperture and Shutter speed.
You can read the full specification in the official page.
In addition to the Cam, I also bought two 2 GB cards and two sets of rechargeable batteries (again Yuvi’s recommendation)
PS: Leaving to Ooty for a small vacation over the weekend and hoping to be back with some real good photos.

Enjoy 😀
Besides, it’s got a 3.0″ screen, not a 2.5″ screen (that’s mine). And aperture is f/2.7-3.5 to f/8. And Focal Length is NOT 35mm equivalent 🙂
@yuvi,
I have corrected the Aperture/focal length. But I am sure that S5 has only a 2.5 inch screen and your cam has 2.0 inch.
Hi Sudar,
How good is the camera? Where did you buy this (Shop name and if possible the address) and at what price? I have been comparing SX100, SX110 and S5 and am tempted to shell that additional bucks to buy a S5. What do you recommend?

@Aravinda Krishnan,
I would highly recommend S5. The camera is really very good.
The only issue I have with it is that it not well suited for indoor shots.
It costed me Rs 18,000 together with two 2GB memory cards, 2 sets of battery and a charger. I got it through my uncle so I am not sure about the address of the shop. I will try to get it from him.
Hi Sundar,
Wish to know the Shop/price for Canon S5 IS @ chennai.

Hi Sundar,
18k is beyond my budget. I finally picked up sx100. Good camera. The only -ve is that it does not have a view finder…have to live with it.
