Happy Birthday, WordPress

Today WordPress (the blogging software which I love) has turned 5. I have been running this site on WordPress for nearly two and a half years now. Thanks to Matt and the other developers for a wonderful product.

PS: Frequent readers of my blog would have noticed that I am not very active these days; things are going fast in my personal life and the posting frequency will soon be normal. 🙂

  • Hi Sundar,
    I see that you are an ardent WP fan, so I am I. However, I am quite new to it – probably I have been using it only for six months now.

    I need to upgrade my site from 2.3.X to 2.5. Is it safe to do it? I have made a lot of changes to my theme and part of the WP code as well which I want to easily incorporate in 2.5 as well.

    I have never done a WP upgrade, that’s why the query.

    Cheers,
    Ajith

    @Ajith,

    Normally, it is safe to upgrade from 2.3.X to 2.5.1 as there is not much of change in the way Plugins and themes interact. I have updated around 10 – 15 separate WordPress installations (including some client blogs) and have not faced any issue.

    But it also depends on the Plugins that you are using and the amount of customization you have done to your theme. I would recommended you to check whether the Plugins that you are using are compatible with 2.5.1.

    PS: The theme that you are using in your site (http://www.dollarshower.com/) is really nice 🙂

  • Hey,
    I upgraded to 2.5.1 finally… there’re minor issues with Brian’s threaded comment plugin otherwise looks okay. If you dont’ mind could you take a real quick look at it and see if there’s any ‘visible damage’?

    Thanks in advance,
    Ajith

    Hello everyone,

    I’m Sakshi and I want to say that WordPress has turned the dreams of millions into reality. It has also helped nations to reduce unemployment and most importantly, WordPress has let people do what they love.
