When I talked about the reliability of user data in the web 2.0 style websites, I asked you to just imagine what might happen if you loose all you email from Gmail. But indeed it has happened to few people. Here are few links from reliable sources
- Gmail Disaster: Reports Of Mass Email Deletions – TechCrunch
- Some Gmail accounts were cleaned out – ZDNet
- Mom, Google Ate My GMail! – GigaOM
- Lost Gmail Emails and the Future of Web Apps – Slashdot
- Lost Everything in My Account – Google Groups
Oh my god! I just cannot imagine this happening to me. More over it seems that Google doesn’t retain a copy of your email once you delete it due to privacy issues. This means that there is very little chance that your email can be restored. All say that the solution is to back up you email. But how to back up my 1.5 GB of email?
You lost your emails?
No Aswin, I didn’t loose any emails.
But I am not sure whether I lost any emails when I was not checking them during my surgery.
Cheers,
Sudar
That’s the thing about it: You have no idea wether you’ve lost emails that you haven’t read!
Yuvi,
Well I am going to be optimistic
Cheers,
Sudar
@Yuvi:
Lol… Same here
GMail is getting superior each day. There is a YouTube of GMail engineers and today GMail seems to be open for web signups too.
