Hello Chandan,

I guess it also depends on the modem type. Actually I have changed around 3 modems after that

There are three ways of configuring and using the BSNL broadband:
1. Do it yourself
2. Do it yourself
3. Nobody helps you so do it yourself!

Well said !

Hello sudar,

You say that it is not required to create a connection in "network connections". I think we need to create a connection. I did the same procedure that you did and I only got to connect to internet when I created a conncection using the network connection wizard.

The main reason why probably you did not get conncection was because the driver was not properly loaded.
There are three ways of configuring and using the BSNL broadband:
1. Do it yourself
2. Do it yourself
3. Nobody helps you so do it yourself!

Rajiv,

Even I tried to get Airtel connection, but it is not offered in my place da. I enquired with them and they said that they offer it only till 1KM from Paris corner.

So the only option for me is BSNL For me the rent is Rs 500 (with out modem since I have my own) and the data transfer limit is 1 GB and from 2 am to 8 am itâ??s free.

Does Airtel offer unlimited data transfer?

Man,

You should have opted for AirTel. They just rock. I get to browse the internet free of cost every night, and that too at speeds of 256 kbps (and the best part is, there is no limits to my downloads). Inclusive of telephone charges, and modem rental, the monthly charges comes to about Rs. 700 - just Rs. 700 !!

Cheers,
Rajiv

Hi Friends,

You may be surprised to know that I am a 57 yrs old, ex-fauji (no big deal to say Wing Commander (Retd)) and self taught compu - literate spending an average of 4hrs on the net amidst the constant nagging of my wife. I have done a lot of 'research' or should I say 'google search' and can assure you that "DataOne" is SIMBLY great.

Imagine our BSNL babus can also deliver and match the best in the world !

But it takes the breadth out of me to think that the Home500 plan offers you 'unlimited' surfing only between 2 to 6 a.m (repeat am or rather "thick of night" when the 'whole' country is expected to sleep). Indians can not be graceful even when we give charity.

Because of the 1GB limit of DataOne per month, I am forced to use Sify's 256 kbps 'Night Unlimited' for Rs.545. Of course, you have to go through the hassel of logging in using their dialer (unlike D-O which is always on) and the compulsory entry into sify.com as your home page. To avoid changing the IP address everyday in the LAN card configured for BSNL's D-One, I have settled for a second LAN Card (RealTek 8139 Family PCI ethernet)...but not very bad. Download is still possible around 30k.

Minister Maran, you have done very well to bring broadband, but when are you going to 'broaden the band' by removing the GB limits?

Ofcourse Sify Does! I think it's somewhere similiar to Rs.500, the Rent.

But, Unfortunately, The speed is more like Dialup, 64 kbps:(

So, If we want to be the fastest and the most affordable thing as of now, I think our Only Option is BSNL Dataone.

Yeah, true that the 1 GB limit is a bottleneck:(.

I almost got my connection removed by unwittingly overshoting my 1 GB Limit by 200 MB. But Now, everything seems to be Fine.

Hope those BSNL Guys get out with some plan like the Sify one, with Unlimited Bandwidth:)

Thanks Sunil.

Hmm the 1GB limit is disheartening for me also, But what to do?

Letâ??s hope that BSNL come with some kind of unlimited plan soon...

And the latest news from our IT minister seems to be promising

Welcome to the BROADBand world. I am a subscriber of DataOne too. But the sadest part if the data transfer limit of 1GB :( In other countries, students get access to 10Mbps lines, which is amazing. Wonder when we would see that in India.
